Canon EF 50mm F/1.8 STM. Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/4-5.6 IS STM. Lenses with built-in focus motor focus faster and more quietly than lenses without a focus motor which rely on the camera's body focus motor. minimum focus distance.
The 50mm f1.4 USM has a bit of a squeaky AF anyway and it's not real ring USM so the motors are not as different as it would be if you were comparing like the 85mm f1.8 USM. The RF 50mm STM sounds pretty much identical to the EF 50mm STM. Here's a video comparing the EF 50mm STM to 50mm f1.4. I think is is far more accurate comparison:
The device is protected with extra seals to prevent failures caused by dust, raindrops, and water splashes. Has a metal mount. Canon EF-S 17-85mm F/4-5.6 IS USM. Tamron SP 17-50mm F/2.8 XR Di II VC. A metal mount is generally superior to a plastic mount as it is more durable.

Originally produced as a 'standard' lens for film cameras, the EF 50mm f/1.8 II is the least expensive lens in Canon's lineup. Don't let the cheap plastic construction and unrefined autofocus put you off - optically it's very good indeed, and the fact that if gathers four times as much light as the average 'kit' zoom makes it ideal for low-light shooting. The EF 50mm f/1.4 lens at f/1.4 produced images almost indistinguishable from those produced by the 1.0L lens at the same aperture. At f/1.0, images were soft to the point of being almost useless for any uses I would have for images. This lens may be a collectors item because it is rare and no longer in production. Here we see the 50mm F1.8 II alongside the EF 50mm F1.4 USM, which costs more than three times as much. The slower lens is noticeably smaller and less than half the weight than its faster sibling, but that distinctly basic design approach is very evident here. In comparison, the F1.4 lens gains USM focusing with full-time manual manual focus, a The 1.8 is the best buy in the Canon world. The 1.4 is a relic from about 1993 that should have been discontinued long ago. 2. cp-photo • 3 yr. ago. 50 STM is sharper and more reliable and durable than the 50 1.4 USM. The 50 isn’t a true ring USM lens - it’s simply a micromotor USM, and a fragile one at that. The latest claim from an anonymous source is that an RF 50mm f/1.4 is in the hands of a select few photographers, but that an announcement “isn't imminent”. With the brilliant, yet expensive Canon RF 50mm f/1.2L USM and the great value $100 RF 50mm f/1.8 STM, there is a gaping pricing hole that Canon could fit into with a modern RF 50mm f/1 Every photographer should have a 50mm lens, and Canon offers versions with prices ranging from just over $100 to over $1500, a pretty dramatic difference. In this review, I’ll be looking at the Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM and the Canon EF 50mm f/1.4L USM. The Canon 50mm f/1.4 currently costs $ at Amazon.com or $349 at B&H Photo. uQxxfN.
